2. Determine the IP address configuration of both computers.
    (a) Select Network Connections|Local Area Connection and click Properties.
    (b) Select the TCP/IP item and Click properties.
Both computers should be set to either:
    A. "Obtain an IP address Automatically" (this is recommended) or
    B. "Use the following IP address". In this case the first 3 sets of numbers on each computer should be the same.(the last number is different and identifies each individual computer) For example if Computer 1 is set to 192.168.0.10 and Computer 2 is set to 192.168.0.11 then they WILL connect up BUT if Computer 1 is set to 192.168.0.10 and Computer 2 is set to 192.200.0.11 then they will NOT connect. Set these addresses as necessary.
3. Check Sharing of Remote Computer on Network as follows:

1. Use Windows Explorer or My Computer, locate the backup directory on your local machine, c:\BEC Backup\bec. (or possibly c:\BEC Backup\Labelterm or c:\BEC Backup\Labelterm ) .
2. Mark\highlight the c:\BEC Backup\bec directory, select Edit|Select All and click Copy (right Click|Copy or Edit|Copy). This copies all of the files in the directory.
3. Create a directory on the Intag or Labelterm module called c:\bec (if it doesn't already exist). Mark the c:\bec directory and paste the copied files into it (right Click|Paste or Edit|Paste) overwriting any existing files.
4. On the Intag or Labelterm module got to 'Settings" Page (in the Labelterm or Intag Software) and press the "Load Default Settings" button. (this restores all of the original program settings)

Archive and Purge Procedure
In case of database problems, corruption or to improve system performance it it recommended that this procedure be carried out regularly.

This procedure requires a recent version of BEC's DBAccess program.
If you already have DBAccess installed then check your version by running it and selecting the File menu. Under this menu you should see both "Pack" and "Archive" options. If these are not present then you need to download the latest version of DBAccess from www.becsystems.com.au.

Archive
1. Select 'File|Open" then navigate to, and select the file you want to archive. This will usually be in the c:\bec directory on the Intag or Labelterm module and will be called Lt_log.dbf, Labelterm_Log.dbf, It_log.dbf or Intag_Log.dbf. (these are the production log files).
2. Verify that the file selected is the one you require by checking the File Path and Name in the blue bar at the top of the screen.
3. Select File|Archive, then use the drop down box to select the date you wish to archive up to. All the records up to and including this date will be removed from the file so if you need to have access to reports for dates older than today then you should select an appropriate date. Note: The records removed will NOT be lost and can be recalled into the main log file if needed at some time in the future.
4. Click OK to complete the archive (wait till the operation completes). The removed records will be stored in a new file called (for example) Lt_log_02032006 to 08052006.dbf where the dates represent the starting and end dates for the purged records contained in it.

Pack
Select "File|Pack" and wait until the operation completes. (this may take a few minutes depending on the speed of your network)
This repairs reduces the size and increases the speed of the file.

If you still have problems (after purging the log.dbf) then you should select the other .dbf files (in the directory specified above) and do a purge on each of then them.

Reloading Indexes

This procedure requires BEC's DBAccess program.
You can download the latest version of DBAccess from www.becsystems.com.au.

1. Open Windows Explorer then navigate to the directory where the database that you want to repair is located (e.g. c:\Intag5)
2. Locate and Delete the Index file corresponding to the database (e.g. Intag5_log.mdx). Careful not to delete the database file itself. (Intag5_log or Intag5_log.dbf)
3. Close Windows Explorer and open DBAccess.
4. Select 'File|Open" then navigate to, and select the database file you want to reindex. This will usually be in the c:\bec directory on the Intag or Labelterm module and will be called Lt_log.dbf, Labelterm_Log.dbf, It_log.dbf or Intag5_Log.dbf. (these are the production log files). If you get the message "Detach Index?" Press Yes.
5. Verify that the file selected is the one you require by checking the File Path and Name in the blue bar at the top of the screen and/or by checking the last entries in the log file, (Ctrl-End to go to the end of the file) and note if the date corresponds to the last entries that were made to the file.
6. Select File|Structure. Click on the 'Load Indexes" button , then navigate to, and select the Index List file (e.g. Intag_Log_Indexes.dbf). At this point the index details should be loaded into the 'Indexes" box.
7. Click on the "Reindex" button.
8. When the operation finishes exit out of the DBAccess program.

Remote Access Guide

To enable remote access for a computer firstly the ADSL router on the remote end must be configured. Access the router using a browser and typing in the address of the router. This is commonly set to a default of 10.1.1.1 but maybe at another address. If you are unsure you may have to contact the supplier/installer of the ADSL router.
In general these steps should be followed otherwise use portforward.com/routers.htm to obtain detailed information about setting up your particular Router/Modem.
1. Firstly define the target computer IP address, that is the computer on the network that you want to remote access. You can find out the computer LAN address by going to the required computer, opening a command prompt (type "cmd" into the run box) then typing ipconfig.
2. Enter the target computer IP address into the LAN address or local IP address box in the router setup.
3. Select the Service or Application that you are going to use for remote access (VNC, PCAnywhere or Windows Remote Desktop). The application may already be listed in the modem setup. If you cannot find the application/service then you can still enter the Port number for the service/application you are using. Windows Remote Desktop the port is 3389, VNC then port is normally* 6100, PCAnywhere the port is normally* 5631.
*NOTE: These port numbers can sometimes be changed from the default to a different value in the host application. If you cannot connect then check the port number on the host application (on the target host PC)
4. Apply / Save the settings on the modem setup. You should now have an entry in the "Virtual Server","Port Forwarding" or "NAT" table with the Local target PC IP address and the remote access application name (VNC, PCAnywhere or Windows Remote Desktop) or a Port number.

To Access the remote machine.

1. Determine the Global IP Address for the network. This can be found by typing MyIpAddress (or similar) into Google (on the target host computer) and selecting the displayed link.
2. Close any firewalls or protection software on the target host computer. In control panel go to Security Center or Firewall and turn off the firewall.
3. On your computer:
VNC: Start the VNC viewer and enter the Global IP Address (if they are using a different port number (from the default) add a colon and the port number to the IP address as follows e.g. 203.133.203.12:6200.
PCAnywhere: Open "Remotes" page, Add Remote, select TCP/IP box, in Settings enter the Global IP Address in the "Network Host PC to control or IP Address to control" box. (if they are using a different port number (from the default) add a colon and the port number to the IP address as follows e.g. 203.133.203.12:5632. Click OK and start the newly created remote item.
Windows Remote Desktop: Select Programs|Accessories|Communications|Remote Desktop Connection then enter the Global IP Address in the "Computer" box. Click Connect. NOTE: You must enable Remote Desktop on the on the target host computer as follows: Control Panel|System|Remote the check the "Allow users to remotely connect to this computer" box.

Scale Communications Debugging Guide

1. Close all applications. Even better restart windows.
2. Open Dataview program (If you do not have this download it from www.becsystems.com.au)
3. Start Dataview. Select each com port in turn (usually 1 and 2) and press connect port.
4. Does any data appear in the display box ?
Yes
1. Try on each of the Baud rates and combinations of Data Bits, Stop Bits and Parity. (Click Clear screen and Connect Port each time you change a setting).
With most the scales the Data Bits, Stop Bits and Parity are either:
8 Data Bits, No Parity, 1 Stop OR 7 Data Bits, Even Parity, 2 Stop bits. Try these combinations first.
2. Once you can see the readable weight from the scale somewhere in the displayed data stream then note down the Com Port Number and Baud rate. Close Dataview.
3. Open the application (Labelterm, Intag or Visilabel) , got to weighing or scale settings, put in the recorded Com Port Number and Baud Rate. Select the Scale Make and Model.
4. Close then restart the application and test if it works.
No
1. Close Dataview and open Commtest program. (If you do not have this download it from www.becsystems.com.au)
2. Connect the CommTest adaptor to each of the com ports, in turn, on the back of the PC. Press each of the displayed Com Port buttons. One should turn green indicating the port is working and identifying the port number that the Commtest adaptor is connected to.
3. If no green signal is displayed then it is likely that the Serial Com port is faulty in the PC (investigate and repair as required). If a green signal is displayed for both com ports then you can assume that PC ports are OK.
4. Check scale to PC cable wiring.
5. Check Scale Serial Output settings (set to Continuous)
6. Otherwise it is a possible Faulty scale output.
